Cheryl Newbanks, President of the North Colorado Area Team, also President of the Yuma, CO Lighthouse, sent us this wonderful report of what happened at their last outreach meeting. Cheryl said, “The Yuma Lighthouse draws many families who bring their children and many young adults. Because of this, our team who consisting of Lola Mathias, Crystal Yearous, Treia Means, Peggy Brophy, Amy Walters, and Leesa Beckman felt encouraged to ask the young adults who attend to lead our January gathering. It was absolutely amazing.
We started out the meeting with a powerful time of prayer, praying for Israel and the release of the hostages, and for America to turn back to God.
The worship team consists of 8 young adults who lead us in a powerful time of Worship and Praise. Then, several shared the messages God put in their hearts. One spoke a message filled with scriptures about the importance of knowing your identity in Christ and how Heaven sees each person. Another message told how important it is to have faith in all we do. One pointed out the importance of relying on Jesus and being particular about who we hang out with and who we listen to.
There were more than 50 in attendance and each one was touched profoundly from the oldest – a 93 year old to a 2 year old. Several teenagers were really touched and as they heard the Scripture and God’s Truth from others just a little older than themselves. Two young boys asked for and received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues. Many came forward to receive prayer for personal needs.
A single mom, caring for 6 children, wrote a prayer request for prayer and encouragement and we followed up by calling her the next day and praying with her. We also invited her to come to our GameChangers group. She came and we prayed for her and her children. Because she has a personal relationship with Jesus, we explained more about the Holy Spirit and how He empowers us to live a Christ like life. Then we prayed for her to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and she was greatly encouraged. The next day, she let us know that she had been hired for a job that she had interviewed for.
All in all, we felt it was such a powerful time of encouragement and learning for our young people and inspiration for the adults who attend. As this is our 40th year anniversary in Yuma, we are praying about making this an annual event where our young people lead the meeting to kick off each new year.
